Iyengar Class Descriptions
The Iyengar Yoga Center of San Diego offers a wide variety of classes to meet the needs of students of all ages and fitness levels. Class levels are designed to offer the student a progressively deeper understanding of the subject. Weekly, regular attendance is highly recommended and sequential study at each level insures steady progress in the art and science of yoga.
Group Classes
Beginner - 60 or 90 Minutes
Foundational classes for those new to yoga or new to the Iyengar method, or for experienced yoga students looking to strengthen their practice of fundamental actions and alignment in asanas (postures). Deep relaxation and pranayama (breathing exercises) are introduced. No prior yoga experience necessary!
Level I - 90 Minutes
Classes for continuing students who would like to strengthen their practice of the fundamental actions and alignment in standing postures, forward and back extensions, seated and abdominal postures, spinal twists, and inversions.
Level II - 90 Minutes
Classes for continuing students. Principles of Iyengar yoga should be well understood. Standing, seated, forward extensions and Sarvangasana (shoulder stand) should be well established. Students will build on a beginning practice of Sirsasana (headstand) and continue to develop back extensions. Beginning arm balances are introduced. This class requires teacher permission to attend
Specialty Classes
Prenatal Yoga
Continuing Iyengar yoga practitioners are welcome to attend their normal level of class with the instructor’s permission. Our highly trained and certified teachers know how to guide and nurture both mother and child through all stages of pregnancy.
For those new to Iyengar yoga, we can provide prenatal classes for groups of 7 or more. Contact us for the current schedule and bring your friends.
Youth & Teen Yoga
Self-confidence flows from the strength, agility and flexibility one gains from tackling progressively challenging poses in a safe, supportive and fun environment. Body knowledge is the first step towards Self-knowledge and the understanding gained positions the youth to face life’s challenges with positivity, creativity and zeal. For groups of 7 or more, we can provide classes for youth ages seven and up.
Private & Small Group Yoga Instruction
Private instruction is available for individual students or small groups who require extra care or prefer a personalized experience. Contact us to inquire about times and rates.
